Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is a new TV serie of 12 episodes, broadcasted since April 2016 in Japan.
For those having loved music from the serie "Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin)", we find again, for our greater enjoyment, practically the same staff (BGM & vocals) and music genre (horror, fighting, action, fantasy, post-apocalyptic themes).
So, all music of this Soundtrack have been composed and produced by SAWANO Hiroyuki (Aldnoah.Zero, Attack on Titan, Blue Exorcist, Kill la Kill, Zombie-Loan, Guilty Crown). It contains 9 BGM & 8 vocals ; sung by mpi (n°2, 4), KOBAYASHI Mika (n°5, 15), Cyua (n°13), Benjamin ANDERSON (n°10) & Eliana (n°1, 16)
The CD gathers different music styles, such as: electronic, orchestral, classical and rock jazz. The instruments mostly used are keyboards & piano ; as well as drums, bass, guitars, strings, trumpet and horns.
My favorite tracks are: the long main theme "Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress" (n°1), a epic electro-orchestral music played with keyboard, drums, strings and horns. From 2'25", we can hear the chorus and from 4'00", the Eliana's voice. Really nice.
In the same style, we have "KGK" (n°3), another electro-orchestral theme, but with much tension.
"Through my blood" (n°5), sung by KOBAYASHI Mika, heard to the 11th episode (when Ikoma transforms). The instrumental is rock and catchy, with electronic instruments like guitars and drums. Excellent, and the Mika's voice is so powerfull and beautifull in the same time.
"Next of Kin" (n°10), actually is a ballad rock song, sung in English by Benjamin ANDERSON. Very pleasant to the ears.
"Grenzlinie" (n°13), is an awesome song sung by Cyua. It begins calmly, the melody is pretty cute and sounds like interstellar. I especially love the part from 2'48", with the arrival of drums, guitars, strings and the enchanting Cyua's voice.
"1coma" (n°15), sung by KOBAYASHI Mika is really amazing, maybe even the best song of this OST. The first part starts with a long electro-orchestral theme, played with keyboard, chorus, horns, drums & strings ; the second part is for me the best, from 2'53", when rhythm changes and accelerates, especially with electric guitar, horns, drums, strings, chorus and… of course the KOBAYASHI Mika's voice. Just epic and a highly emotional moment.
In Short, this Soundtrack is really good. SAWANO Hiroyuki is a genius for real! And, as usual, both BGM and songs are fabulous. If you liked music of Attack on Titan, Kill la Kill or Aldnoah.Zero, it is no doubt for you.
